Two new MRT lines being studied; West Coast MRT Extension to proceed
The investment is expected to go in the direction of condition monitoring systems to enable more proactive and targeted repair, and new solutions to enhance the performance and effectiveness of rail service. The investment will also assist to supply employees training programmes for rail workers.
Two new MRT channels are at the moment undertaking workability research studies by the Land Transport Authority. The lines are intended for finalization in the 2040s and can potentially serve more than 400,000 houses.
“Jointly, these efforts to increase the rail network, boost the administration of rail assets, and upskill our rail workforce, will definitely permit us to continue delivering helpful, dependable and sturdy public transportation for our travelers,” says LTA.
Chee also announced LTA’s plannings to proceed with the West Coast Extension (WCE), that will expand the Jurong Region Line (JRL) to attach with the Circle Line (CCL) and Cross Island Line (CRL).
Among the suggested railway, Seletar Line, might serve locations consisting of Woodlands, Sembawang, Sengkang West, Serangoon North, Whampoa, Kallang, and the Greater Southern Waterfront.
Meanwhile, its 2nd phase aims to extend the JRL from West Coast Station to connect with the CCL’s Kent Ridge Station by the early 2040s.
Upon completion, the WCE will supply residents travelling from the West to the city hub with up to 20 mins of time reductions.
The next, tentatively called the Tengah Line, can supplement the transport network in the west and northwest regions to offer locations such as Tengah, Bukit Batok, Queensway, and Bukit Merah.
Subject to the outcomes of LTA’s feasibility studies, the Seletar Line and Tengah Line could be joined, according to a speech by Transportation Minister Chee Hong Tat in parliament on March 5.
In preparing for the near future development of Singapore’s rail system, Chee also announced the government’s intentions to spend approximately $1 billion over the succeeding five years to keep high-reliability standards in both latest and outdated train systems.
The WCE is going to be implemented in 2 stages. The primary stage is assumed to expand the JRL from Pandan Reservoir Station to link with the CRL by the late 2030s.
